The first thing you should do is go to your roster page, click "Modify Post" and copy everything within the post window. Then back out to your roster page again and click "Post Reply". Paste your copied text into the new post window and submit. You now have a record of your roster to refer back to during your updating. This post can be deleted once you have finished updating your roster.
Here is a basic outline of the steps to update your roster for the new league year.
Updating Roster:
1. Return all IR players to active roster. Roster limits will not be enforced until later in the offseason.
2. Clear out any buyouts. Buyouts only count towards the season in which the contract was bought out.
3. Now would be a good time to either print out your current roster or copy and repost your current roster so that you have a record in case you make a mistake.
4. Compare the contract length of each player to the years in column. If the numbers in these columns are the same (EX: Length: 3, Years In: 3), then that players contract has ended and they are now restricted free agents (RFAs).
RFAs are players that are not under contract but can be resigned or traded by their current team without the auction process. More on resigning rules later.
Remove any RFAs from your active roster to a list or section that contains the player's name, team and base salary of their expired contract. Bye Week, Contract type, length and years in information is not needed.
5. Change the salary years from 2013-2075 to 2014-2018.
6. Several things need to be changed for each player on your Active roster: Bye Week, Contract Years In, yearly salaries (2014-2018). It is best to do one player at a time instead of trying to do all edits at once. After each player, it is best to click the "Modify Post" button so that your changes are saved. A good way to keep track of which player you are working on is to replace the bye week number with (Z), (--) or (x). This way you update part of you roster and come back later without losing your place. To start, replace the Bye Week number. Then add +1 year to the years in total.
7. Update the "State of Team" table. First off you need to know a few bits of information. the total amounts for the different sections are: Active- 44, Practice Squad- 6, Injured Reserve- 7, Base (and Overall) Salary- $135. Adjust your State of team to reflect how many players you have under contract in your Active & Practice Squad rosters. There should not be any players on your IR. Add up your Active roster Base Salaries to get your total Base Salary. Add up your Active roster 2012 Costs to get your overall 2012 Salary.
8. After you have updated your roster, copy the updated roster code and use it to replace your old roster.
