As a dynasty league, player retirements need to be accounted for when maintaining a roster. These supplemental Rookie picks would be mid-to-late round picks that are tacked on to the end of a round and are untradeable, much like the NFL model for supplemental picks. Pick round would be determined by previous production of the retiring player.
-------------------------------------------------
A player would be considered retired if they meet one or more of the following qualifications:
1) Has announce retirement and filed retirement paperwork with the NFL
2) Missed 3 or more consecutive seasons due to injury or suspension
3) Can no longer play due to career ending injury or death
-------------------------------------------------
Possible guidelines:
- A retiring player must have been on their current team's roster for the duration of one full calendar year before the announcement of retirement for the team to qualify for a supplemental pick higher than the 6th round. Retiring players acquired during the season would only qualify for a 6th (or final round if draft were extended) rd pick in a future draft.
- Supplemental pick value would be based on several factors: duration of service to current team, previous year's production, average production over previous 3-4 years, production in relation to rest of current team
- Practice Squad Players not eligible for Supplemental picks. This would prevent speculative signing and stashing on PS.
- If a retired player returns to active duty within 4 years of retirement, any team that received a supplemental pick for that player must forfeit a pick of equal value to the one received. (We could call this the "Run, Rickey, Run" clause in honor of Rickey Williams)
