Okay guys,
I've been slack long enough. I have created the Future Rules Discussion board and implemented the Offseason worksheet I mentioned in an earlier update.
Future Rules Discussion
Use the Suggestions thread to submit any ideas for future rules or rules tweaks. I'll review them and submit them as proposals for the league to discuss. I would like to hear from everyone so please participate in the proposal discussions.
There is no set timeline for rules discussions or implementations. Once the discussion has reached a logical or satisfactory end the implementation timeframe will be decided.
The Offseason
In the past we have done our offseason contract work slowly and in individual steps, often taking several months to complete. I would like to streamline this so that Unrestricted Free Agency can open as early as possible so I have implemented the Offseason worksheet.
The worksheet has three main objectives:
1) Help you keep track of your offseason contract moves by consolidating the information in one place
2) Streamline and accelerate the offseason process
3) Help me (the commish) keep on top off everyone's offseason progress
Why do we need something like this?
That's easy. I am modifying our offseason format. Instead of plodding through each step of our offseason contract phase, I am opening them all up at once. Moving forward, after the draft has finished we will enter the offseason contract phase and owners will have the opportunity to complete all aspects of contract work as they see fit. You can re-negotiate, restructure, resign RFAs and sign rookies in any order that you want.
What are the benefits?
1) Less Deadlines. Instead of 4 separate periods with 4 separate deadlines, there is now just 1.
2) More freedom & flexibility with the signing and resigning aspects of offseason contracts. Most of you have been doing this for several years now so you don't need me enforcing multiple deadlines or holding your hands through this process.
3) Free Agency starts sooner (in theory).
How does it work?
Its fairly simple. When you make a contract decision you follow you normal steps of announcing the move on the Team News forum and updating your Roster page.
Now you have one more quick step.
Go to your Offseason worksheet and modify it by filling out the proper line of the worksheet to reflect your new contract move.
All of your possible contract moves are represented on the worksheet so it can be as easy as cutting and pasting the info to the correct line.
Sharp eyed owners will notice that I have added an additional 1yr (+$1 to base) contract to the RFA resigning section. This is to help offset the large amount of RFAs this year and also provide an alternative contact option to those owners who do not want to make an unnecessary long term commitment to at least one player.
As of now, The Contract Phase of our offseason will begin Friday June 8th at 8am EST. Good luck everyone!
