LONDON, England (AP) - After reaching the TDL Conference Finals in his 1st season in charge with the newly established Canton Bulldogs, GM Kyri Koni has acted swiftly upon hearing the recent developments surrounding franchise relocation outside of the US.
This major overhaul of the franchise's base follows a trend that matches past events under several previous owners. In TDL's inaugural season of 2009, The Philadelphia Eagles enjoyed divisional success as they were crowned AFC Champs with a 7-5 regular season record.
The following season in 2010 marked the franchise's first official re-location, setting up base in Brooklyn, which turned out to be one of the biggest mistakes in TDL history. Fast forward a few months, and the Brooklyn Dodgers were sitting afoot the entire TDL with a record of 0-12. A laughing stock, and one that required action to ensure progress.
Perhaps hopes were to be renewed with another franchise re-location to San Diego, where the Chargers were adopted into the TDL. However this optimism was short-lived, as a 5-7 season in 2011 resulted in another GM facing the inevitable axe.
Despite everything seemingly lost, newly appointed GM Kyri Koni would soon thrust this franchise on to the main stage. After inheriting a de-motivated group of players, and manoeuvring valuable assets in the trading market around the TDL, in a single year of ownership, Kyri Koni has taken this once failing franchise and immediately turned them into Championship contenders, as proved in 2012 where they were halted in the AFC Conference Finals.
"To have the opportunity to set our base in my home town is one that I just couldn't pass up", beamed Mr. Koni. "I'm extremely excited with the direction we are heading in. I feel with a few more additions, as well as locking up some of our already star players to long-term deals, the foundations will be in place for the London Monarchs to make another run at the Championship in 2013."
The re-location to London takes place with immediate effect.
