Dual Eligibility has become a hot topic as of late and the process by which our players attain position eligibility needs to be addressed.
The obvious answer would be to discontinue the process of Dual Eligibility entirely and rely solely on MFL's position designations. This solution is simple, direct, and in the end probably the simplest, least complicated overall solution.
But let's be honest: none of of us were drawn to this league because of its simplicity. This is a league of true fantasy die-hard stat diggers who ended up here because they wanted more than what the run-of-the-mill standard scoring redraft leagues offered, so we should discuss alternative ways to determine dual eligibility.
Discussion is open to all suggestions, but I would prefer that we try to focus more on solutions that don't require subjective reasoning ("I saw player X line up in position Y a few times so he must be a hybrid") or rely on mercurial information like coach or player statements ("We like player A's athletic ability and would like to get him more involved in scheme B").
My initial suggestion would be to do away with the league vote aspect and use a handful of reliable sources to provide concrete evidence of a players position designation. These sources would be: Official team depth charts and other fantasy hosts (Yahoo!, ESPN, NFL.com, CBSSports, Fleaflicker, etc.). If a set number (lets say 3 for now) of these sources has a player listed at a position other than (or in addition to) to the MFL designation then that player is granted dual eligibility for the season. Requests for Dual Eligibility would be posted as normal with all pertinent data included but there would be no need for a poll and the subjective nature of the process would be removed in favor of hard, presentable data.
