Hola….I wanted to give everyone in here a chance to join a new league I'm starting up during the upcoming offseason. It will be primarily composed of owners from another league I commish, called "Frankly, I don't give a damn" (thus the references in the following to Frankly), and I am 1/2 full in the 1st 2 days after offering it to that group. But I know I will have several more slots open. I thought I would ask this league, b/c it has a similar format as this league, but it is a 32 team league, full IDP. It will have contracts similar to this league, but I'm going to do all the management on the MFL site, so there won't be any pro board site for that league.
Anyhow, here's a description, let me know if you have questions, and my contact info is at the bottom of the message:
As you see below, I have the framework for the league set up in my brain, but need to firm up some of the specifics.
The format for this league will be a fair bit different than Frankly or the other leagues. It will be 32 teams, full IDP, but with contracts. Not contracts like we do in Frankly, but contracts that the owner selects. There will be a salary cap, and it will need to be a relatively tight salary cap to keep the playing field level. We will have an inaugural draft, and will draft a team of 25 or so (final roster size TBD). At that time you will assign contracts to those players. Again, the specifics need to be worked out, but essentially from the players drafted in the inaugural draft you will be given six 4 year contracts, seven 3 year contracts, six 2 year contracts, and six 1 year contracts to assign to your players. Of the four year contracts, 1 will have a salary of $1, two of $2, two will cost $3, one $4 and one $5 at each contract length or some variation along those lines (again I still need to iron out specifics). Same for the other year contracts. The idea is that you will have roster that is a dynasty roster, but will have some turnover, like is seen in the NFL. I'll go into detail below, but you will have the opportunity to resign players with expiring contracts, but it will cost you.
Free agent bidding will by on the MFL site in increments of $1, and when you win a player, the winning bid becomes his salary. You can choose any length of contract for a player that is won in free agency.
There will be no free lunch, when you cut a player, their remaining salary (or most likely a fraction thereof- TBD) is counted against your current year salary cap. So if you own Jamarcus Russel at $3 x 4 years left on the contract, and you cut him, say $6 is applied to you salary cap in the year he is cut.
Players with expiring contracts can be resigned, but at a higher salary, and there will only be a few salary options, meaning, maybe you will be able to sign one to a long contract, but others will only have the option of a 3 year contract or 2 year contract with a $1-$3 bump in their salary. So you will always have a chance to resign all players, but if you do it will cost you, and once we get the cap right it will be a challenge to keep all your players. You will have to make decisions about who to keep and who you will have to let go (just like in the NFL).
There will also be some scoring adjustments. It will be PPR, although partial PPR (maybe 0.25 or 0.5 points per reception), to give WRs/TEs and pass catching RBs a small amount of additional value that is reflective of their actual value to an NFL team and to put all of them on relatively equal footing. DTs will be a requried position, and they will have a scoring boost to put them on equal footing as the other defensive players (one can argue that DTs and DEs are more valuable in real life than a LB, but we tend not to give them equal value in our leagues). CBs will be a required position as well, and I have to look at their scoring to see if they need a small boost as well.
I wanted to make it a dynasty league, but a dynasty league that is fair for all participants modeled on the same principles as Frankly- fair for all, a relatively tight salary cap, so no one can have a truly stud team year after year. If you have a down year, I want it to be possible to rebuild quickly and have a respectable team the following year. I was sick of seeing teams in the other leagues that would have a bad season and need 5 years to rebuild due to the rules of the league. I also wanted a bit more turnover of players on the rosters, to aid in accomplishing this.
So these concepts will be applied in the new league as well- the goal is to set up a league where all teams have a fighting chance nearly every year, or if they are in rebuild mode, a rebuild should only take a year or two.
I anticipate setting up the site after MFL turns over to the 2014 sites, and starting the draft shortly thereafter.
Please email me if you are interested so I can get a head count and see how many slots I need to fill. I love the group of owners in Frankly and hope many of you can join. I will not advertise to the other leagues until I've heard from everyone in Frankly, so please let me know if you are interested or not interested.
