Without fanfare or buildup, the 2014 season is underway.
Trading will open tomorrow at 12 NOON EST. Only teams who have completed their roster updates will have the ability to trade, but the incomplete teams will have their trading ability re-instated as soon as they have completed their roster updates.
If this is your 1st offseason with the TDL (or you would like a refresher), there are a few things you should keep in mind:
Once trading opens there will probably be a flurry of moves to start off. Make sure to follow all posting guidelines and procedures to reduce errors. If you haven't done a trade here before, do not hesitate to ask for help.
I'm sure that many of you have been discussing possible trades non-stop since the end of the season and may even have a few handshake deals in place. please remember that verbal trade agreements are non-binding and not enforceable in the event that one team decides to back out due to a better offer, player injury, etc. While I would personally prefer that verbal agreements remain unannounced, GMs have the freedom and right to keep a record of these agreements as sub-posts in their Roster post thread. I would ask that both GMs agree to the public announcement of verbal trades BEFORE they are posted publicly on the forums. Also please remember that if the verbal agreement falls apart, there is no way for the agreed upon deal to be enforced until it has been officially announced and signed off by both GMs in the Trades forum.
Roster limits are currently waived to accommodate the player traffic during this phase of the offseason. The roster limits will be enforced as the offseason progresses. An announcement on these dates will be made later.
When trading for a player, keep in mind their current roster status and add them to your roster accordingly. RFAs retain their Restricted status until re-signed or released by the team that controls their rights at the end of the RFA resigning period. PS players retain their PS designation until signed or released by their controlling team at the end of the PS Resigning period.
While Roster limits have been waived, the Salary Cap is still in effect. Any trade that would put you over the salary cap will be voided. I don't see this as an issue since everyone should have plenty of salary space since RFAs do not count against your cap but it must nonetheless be accounted for.
If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. Good luck to everyone!
