Hi Guys,
As you know, there has been an ongoing issue with players having been bought out after the deadline of 10/27/14 (Week 8). I have been considering the issue, possible punishments and possible causes of the problem and I have come to the following decision:
Effective immediately, the ability to buy out a player’s contract will be available all season (minus roster change embargo periods during the offseason). The Cap Penalty for contracts bought out after the Week 8 deadline of a season will carry over into the next season.
Having the ability to jettison unwanted players should help stimulate roster growth throughout the season for all teams and make it easier for teams in the playoff picture to acquire injury replacements for non-IR bound players. Having the buyout penalty carry over to the next season should deter attempts to mass dump unwanted contracts to clear cap space the following year. The current buyout ban causes rosters and the free agent market to stagnate in the latter half of the season, with moves mainly being made as players are moved to IR, opening up roster slots.
This is a change that has been on deck for a while but I decided to go ahead and implement it now instead of with the other changes I have planned.
This has been a very difficult year for my family and it has affected my activity in the management of this league. 3 months ago my wife and I lost our second child to miscarraige. Last month my mother began receiving treatment for early stage dementia and a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is all but a formality at this point. We are working frantically to get our house ready to put on the market so that we can sell it and purchase another that will have enough room so that my parents can stay with us long term so my mom can receive treatment here in Nashville.
The next couple of months will be frantic but once we are settled in our new home I can turn my full attention to implementing the other changes I have in store. Here are a few highlights:
- player contracts and salary tracking will be automated through MFL.
- new contract structures will be introduced to better fit the automated process.
- RFA resigning and in-season contracts will be revamped to allow more flexibility for GMs.
- updated MFL page.
- forum will be refocused towards the offseason with less in-season roster maintenence.
- re-written rules section to make it easier to understand and include missing updates/changes.
- migration to a new forum page.
Thank you all for being a great group of fantasy fiends and I hope you have enough remaining patience to stick around and see what happens next.
