I'll be traveling back to Iraq next week after this weekend's games, so I won't have a chance to post up my weekly awards (similar to the last week since I have been on leave and I've been busy with my family)
Anyway, all teams have played at least 4 games, some 5, so these are NOT awards based on total points.
QB - Peyton Manning - this is a runaway. Drew Brees was hot the first 2 weeks and sucked it up in weeks 3 and 4. Peyton has been on fire, however, and is averaging a good TD/game more than anyone, other than McNabb and Hasselbeck, both who have been injured. Matt Schaub, Eli, Flacco and Big Ben all get honorable mention as QBs who were chosen much later but are producing at or near that magical 20 PPG level.
RB - Adrian Peterson - another easy choice, although the somewhat surprising performance of Ray Rice can certainly be considered, along with Cedric Benson, especially considering AD is the consensus 1.01, whereas Benson and Rice were taken long after
WR - Steve Smith....the "other" Steve Smith. His week 5 was a bit of a stinker, but he's been a beast otherwise, and his late late draft position makes him an incredible value. Larry Fitzgerald earns honorable mention as he is, as always, Mr. Consistency, scoring at least 12 points in all 4 of his games
TE - Dallas Clark is running away with this one. He hasn't scored less than 13 points since week 1 and with Peyton in full beast mode, it doesn't look like he will slow down.
Special Teams - Clifton Smith, Jacoby Jones and Stefan Logan have all been consistent as KRs this season. Johnny Knox and Darren Sproles could win this, but they're also steady position players as well.
DT - Marcus Stroud is running away with this one while doing the unthinkable - providing > 8 points in EVERY game from the lowest scoring position in the game. Incredible consistency is not something you expect from a DT. Stroud is providing consistently excellent performances.
DE - Jared Allen, again in a landslide. He's already averaging over 2 PPG more than his competition, and has been over 14 points every week since week 1. He's actually outscoring every defensive player not named.....
LB - Patrick Willis. I traded up to get him at the 1.01D position. It's paying off, as he is nearly 20 points ahead of everybody on defense and is 5th in overall (non-QB) scoring
CB - Nate Clements - not really much to say about this one. He's been consistent, whereas no other CBs have. He hasn't won any games outright for his owner, but 3 games > 13.5 points, 4 of 5 in double digits and his "stinker" at 7.5 makes him a solid every week play.
S - Darren Sharper is the monster surprise this year. He's WAAAY ahead of everybody, but with 5 picks and 2 TD returns with nearly 300 yards already in returns, his insane streak may very well end. Rook Louis Delmas is proving to be a solid pickup, and Tyvon Branch and especially Danieal Manning are providing great valu eand consistency.
Offensive MVP - Peyton. Seriously, was there any doubt?
Defensive MVP - Patrick Willis, with Jared Allen and Marcus Stroud as runners-up due to how much they're dominating within their own positional matchups
